Overview of Gyre's gameplay

Gyre's gameplay is similar across both modes, but with PvP of course being difficult in different ways from the story mode.

Combat

The player controls a small avatar who is capable of dealing melee and magic damage. Melee damage is very high, but due to the nimble natural movement and movement abilities of most entities, closing the gap is tough. Magic damage has good range and base damage to it, but a player character's affinity for magic leads to an innate resistance that makes melee combat pretty appealing in PvP. There is an environmental factor present to combat. Platforms and obstacles can be used strategically to create an advantage over opponents. There will be destructible elements to the environment, as well as player created environmental changes through building.

Building

To gain an edge, players will be able to add or modify the terrain around them through structure building. Players have a set amount of building resources that regenerate over time when they're spent. Build wisely! Most structures players can build will be platforms, but there will be ways to build dynamic elements such traps and turrets as well.

Balancing

Ranged vs melee range combat will be continually iterated on until it strikes a strong balance. Both melee and magic should have a time and place for effective use, and be the preferred method of damage in those times.

XP & Leveling

Most things a player does in-game in Gyre will earn a small amount of XP. XP contributes to your overall level. In the beginning All XP earned contributes to your overall level, but XP earned within XP epochs (two week periods) will be redeemable at the end of an epoch for a reward, GOLD to start with.
